Larger screen, higher resolution and refresh rate
Switch 2's screen is bigger than the original system, measuring 7.9 inches diagonally compared to Switch OLED's 7" and the original console's 6.2" LCD. Switch 2's isn't an OLED, though.
Switch 2's has a variable refresh rate (VRR) capable of 120Hz - that's up to 120 frames per second. Not every game is going to be capable of that, of course, but technically the system can do it.
Switch 2 also s HDR10 for tighter contrast between light and dark areas.
GameChat
GameChat is a voice chat feature allowing up to 12 people to chat while playing games on Switch 2. The mic is in the console itself and the optional Switch 2 camera, enabling you to share video.
You'll need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to use GameChat, although it will be free to anyone with a Switch 2 until 31st March 2026.
GameShare
As the name suggests, GameShare lets you share compatible games with other Switch 2 and Switch 1 systems using just one copy of the game.
There's only a small list of compatible games at the time of writing, but there should be more coming in the future.
Switch 2 UI
The new console features an updated interface and menu setup, although it's very similar to Switch 1's menu - just a lot faster!

Switch 2's controllers feature a bunch of improvements over the old Joy-Con, including magnetic attachment, a new button which has various functions linked to the new GameChat and GameShare features.

Nintendo Switch 2 FAQ
Before we wrap things up, let's answer a few common Switch 2 questions.
Does Switch 2 replace the first Switch?
The current Switch will likely exist alongside Switch 2 for some time, possibly several years. That's not unusual for a new Nintendo console.
The Nintendo Switch has sold over 150 million units, and — as with previous Nintendo consoles such as the Wii and the 3DS — developers will continue to it for some time following the introduction of a Switch successor.
Backwards compatibility also means that Switch 2 players can still buy and play 'old' Switch games, which should sound good to publishers.
Nintendo has announced two Switch 1 games that will launch in 2026 — Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream — indicating its plans to the system beyond Switch 2's release.
Should I wait for the Nintendo Switch 2 to be released before buying a Switch?
Do you already own a Switch? If so, you should wait for the Switch 2 before considering an upgrade.
Now the new Switch has been fully unveiled, you'll have a better idea of the new features and software it will offer and you'll be able to make an informed purchase decision.
If you don't currently own a Nintendo Switch, it's an excellent system with an exceptional library. Nintendo has confirmed that Switch 2 will play existing Switch games, therefore you can start building your game collection now, knowing they will be compatible with the new hardware.
What was the Nintendo Switch 2's codename?
References to the codename 'Muji' were found in software development kits in May 2024, although of Famiboards suggested in September that 'Ounce' was the Switch 2's codename.
The Switch 2 hardware, accessories, and game cards carry the retail product code 'BEE'.
Switch 2 History - A Timeline
Switch '2' rumours — and before that, Switch 'Pro' rumours — circulated for almost as long as its predecessor had been on store shelves.
It wasn't until May 2024 that Nintendo announced its intentions to reveal a Switch successor before the end of the 2024/25 fiscal year.

So it looks that the UI will not any backgrounds etc... That is so sad.
However, I am interested in the icons. What do you think is the green icon (3. from the left), and the blue one (6. from the left)
@BlackenedHalo
Three backgrounds I would be ok with. Light, Dark, and the ability to use your screenshots as a background!🤩
loving the new thumbnail
Does anybody know if it’s safe to use the a/c adapter and hdmi cable of the switch 2 for the switch 1 dock? (HDMI should be no issue, but am not sure about the a/c adapter; and also don’t have my switch 2 yet)
I thought Bravely Default was a launch title?
Does anyone know how to make the Switch 1 Pro controller work wireless on Switch 2 ?
It seems to work only when wired
@MoldyPasta At least I hope it has a dark mode, like on Switch 1. That is all I care about honestly.
I am not really interesting in backgrounds, as how much time do you spend on the home screen?
i'am no interesting the switch two
Tomorrow is the special day!
Finally got my hands on it. The transfer of switch 1 is ongoing. My box came with a Mario kart world code that also took some time to install. The process was very straight forward. Mario Kart World is a bit samey, but my kids love it and I’m hoping it will grow on me. The 24 player is definitely more chaotic.
The only thing I’d have liked to know is what difference does it make if I do or don’t do a system transfer when keeping the Switch 1. Doing it does empty the switch 1? If I don’t do it I still have access to all software etc, so what exactly does it perform? Nintendo should have made it more clear, and not putting the “select this if you don’t have a switch” 😐
My preorder arrived from Walmart early this morning before I had to leave for work. Well at least part of the preorder. The console and the pro controller arrived this morning. The other accessories and the amiibo I ordered will arrive tomorrow. The two items I received this morning were also each accompanied by a promotional walmart gift bag with a can of Pringles and a bottle of orange cream coca cola.
Mine has now arrived! EE and DPD delivery as always!!! Playing with the welcome Tour and it’s great fun despite not being free!
Screen is vibrant. Rumble 2 is actually brilliant! Mouse controls are really spot on and I hope that devs do make use of this feature as it’s really got huge potential!
So far I’m very happy!! MKW and Fast Fusion are just finishing ing.
Still waiting for Target to ship my system....stuck on "preparing to ship" estimated June 10th...
Still can't find one. I am going to take a long breather, it's been too crazy and I got one for my daughter so I am just going to wait a few months or so until I can easily walk in and buy one.
@tourjeff my switch 2 is still in delivery so couldn’t try, but it should work wireless. Did you sync the controller with the switch 2? (By using the small button near the usb c port).
Switch 2 is out of control. It really tries to all my games.
1. Without me telling it to do so.
2. Without a real chance to stop it. (I could stop on a game-by-game basis but I cannot say: Stop this insanity!!!)
3. System memory isn't enough - by far.
I hoped I could use this day to clean up my overly big collection a bit. But the system doesn't want me to.
Sounds not to be a big thing. But it's a pain in the neck with 350+ games Switch 2 tries to .
Does someone know how to stop this madness?
I ordered one this morning from Costco. It's expected to be here tomorrow.
After a freaking year to get a PS5 and still be forced into a huge bundle, it was refreshing to get a Switch 2 relatively effortlessly.
Ok, technically still a bundle, but I don't mind a year of NSO.
@Coxula From comments I've seen, you have to cancel them individually.
I'm hoping to just and transfer virtual cards over as I see fit from my Switch 1.
@TKundNobody hmm, I tried that but maybe didn't hold the button long enough?
Have to try again later today!
(embarassed by a previous comment lmfao pls forgive me if anyone saw me in my despair. the mono audio option is in accessibility obviously, i crashed out for naught. hopefully they add an option to make system sounds mono though, since as it stands im avoiding the home button quick menu like the plague)
but yeah having to manually cancel all these s is wild. the switch was around for what, 8 years? my library is easily over 200, i had to manually cancel like 30 s and the archive software option seems to be completely gone. i guess you keep the virtual game card but cmon, who wants to press "delete"?
also... does anyone else find these joycon 2 flimsy? the original joycons feel way sturdier and more substantial, these are definitely lighter which is good for handheld mode but kind of rough for tv mode imo
I know a Switch 1 charger can’t be used with a Switch 2 dock, but is the opposite ok? I’m keeping my Switch 1, but I’d like to be able to take my Switch 2 dock and swap it for the Switch 1 if I move the dock to another room without having to crawl around behind my TV. Does anyone know?
@speed_loafer Thanx. I also just wanted to transfer the Virtual Game Cards. In fact, I even thought that this would be the main purpose of them when they introduced them, but...
Don't know about Wifi. But the s are way faster then before even the ones with cable.
And: I would have bet against it, but the shop is... fluid. No comparison to before! If someone could tell me now how to stop auto video-play in it...
Happy Switch 2 launch day, everyone! Have fun!
So all my games are digital, and after doing the system transfer it is queuing every single game up to until I turn off the system or disconnect from the internet. I definitely do not want to fill up every bit of system storage right now. Is there any way to cancel all the s at once or do they all need to be canceled individually? This is kind of annoying to be honest.
EDIT: I just noticed someone else discussing this problem. Selecting virtual cards doesn’t work: even when the virtual card isn’t loaded it will try to . And there’s no option for mass archiving either. As far as I can tell this is a pretty ridiculous oversight. I can either spend an hour canceling every I don’t want or let it go and waste bandwidth until the system capacity is full. Not fun.
@dartmonkey any suggestions?
Okay, an update for @Coxula and anyone else who’s interested. After spending about thirty minutes slowly canceling the s that were queued, the system finally seemed to figure out what I was doing and canceled all the others from that point down (as well as not canceling the few that I had allowed to continue). So I don’t know if it’s because I canceled about half of the queue or what, but it finally got the message and at least saved me the time of going through the rest. Everything else I tried - disconnecting from the internet, ejecting virtual game cards, powering off and on, didn’t work. In each case the games that were still on my home menu remained in the queue. Only canceling (or deleting) them individually works.
I don’t know how to avoid this for future digital-only Switch 2 buyers, unless you’re willing to archive most of your games BEFORE doing a system transfer. But of course if you want to keep those games ed on your Switch 1, then you’re out of luck avoiding an auto- on the Switch 2.
So it’s still pretty bad, but maybe if you cancel enough, it will finish the job for you? I guess I can’t say for sure. Best of luck!
Anyone find the Switch 2's screen a bit too blue-ish? Not my type at all. The Switch 1 had more warmth to it. Likewise my phone and laptop. I also set those up whenever I can, including TV. But, I can't modify that on the Switch 2's screen . It's just too blue and unappealing, as if lacking contrast as well.
@Medic_alert That's good, but it still disconnects or at least slows down a lot if we're far from the router, which is very disappointing. My phone and laptop are fine from the same distance.
Bros the speed for my switch 2 is horrendously slow. Far slower than my switch 1. Is anyone else having this problem?
Hi @dartmonkey - is there a wired or Bluetooth headset that you could reccomend at all for Switch 2 - eg would Apple AirPods work along with Game Chat? TIA. Thanks for the comprehensive guide also.
@BaldB3lper78 I've only tested Airpods (an old pair of Pros) so far, and they worked fine with GameChat. I imagine they'll all be much of a muchness in practice.
@BoilerBroJoe I wasn't able to find workaround when I did it - it reached the 256GB limit for me and then gave me the option to cancel all s.
@dartmonkey cheers mate! Appreciate that. All the best
Been playing cyberpunk a lot with mouse controls and it's clear, Nintendo needs an official mouse ASAP. They need a large sized mouse that's just like a popular gaming mouse with the standard two buttons and a wheel on top, with the four face buttons and stick on the side like the Joycon. The Joycon is not ergonomic enough. If I was skilled with electronics I'd have gotten an extra Joycon and did it myself, but Nintendo needs to do this yesterday. It should have all the same internals inside as the Joycon. If a good company gets there first, they can have my money.
@Ramouz Turn off HDR
@Misima I turned off HDR for TV but kept it on for the Switch 2. I tried with/without it on Switch 2 and it's the same. It is what it is based on some reviews I saw.
