Fast Fusion on the Switch 2, calling it "the most technically impressive game of the launch line-up" and a "must-have" for early adopters.
Starting off on a bit of a downer, however, DF notes that the overall image quality isn't quite up to scratch, with gameplay looking like "a mess of pixels with a lot of temporal blur". Essentially, Shin'en is making heavy use of DLSS, with the 1080p mode actually rendering at a base resolution of 540p, 1440p mode at 504p, 4K/60 mode at around 648p, and 4K/30 at 720p.

Basically, with the fast-paced nature of the game, the heavy use of DLSS causes some serious image issues. Now, the good news is that, Fast RMX.
Onto the more positive stuff, then. DF praises the frame rate across most of the game's performance modes, but understandably states that the 30fps ultra quality mode probably isn't worth it for most people. Although very minor frame rate hiccups were noticed, DF could not replicate them for the actual frame rate test in the video. Meanwhile, the basic quality mode uses real-time shadows over baked shadows, but it's noted that the difference between the two is pretty minor.
GameShare is also tested, and thanks to the streaming technology involved, the image quality for player two isn't quite up to par. This is understandable, and again, the fast-paced gameplay makes this much more obvious.
Elsewhere, DF heaps praise on the lighting effects in the game along with the actual design of the tracks themselves. Compared to Fast RMX, which used quite basic track designs with a few environmental assets added in here and there, Fast Fusion's tracks feel like they're part of a much bigger world, and this is quite the feat given just how few people are on the development team.
Pretty good stuff then! We absolutely loved the game too, and gave it a well-deserved score of 9/10 in our review. If you've not tried this one yet, then we highly recommend giving it a shot.
Have you tried Fast Fusion yet? What do you make of it so far? Head on down to the comments section and let us know.

Agreed 150 % !!! This is an excellent game! And at £13 odd pounds you can't go wrong!! Also, ing the devs of this game is a must, as we need more of them in this day and age!!
Amazing to hear. Will be getting this on Friday after I go pick up my NS2. Very excited
I was all in on this until I discovered there’s no online beyond the Game Share mode. That’s a death knell for a racing game for me unfortunately. If they patch it in then I’ll be there for it, though depending on how long that takes (if it’s happening at all) I’m not sure the player base will be there. The time for it is now when it’s slim pickings for Switch 2 exclusives.
I’m not sure how they do it with only 1 graphics artist on staff. They are a legendary team.
@Neckcrane go for it, you won't be disappointed! And enjoy your new switch 2 aswell!
Love it! I am playing this a lot right now.
Online multiplayer would be nice! Does anyone know if this is planned for the future?
@Olliemar28 any word on an online mode update in the future?
FAST RMX had online multiplayer and it was... quite bad to be honest. I don't really mind Fusion being local multiplayer only.
@KoopaTheGamer hopefully with the switch 2 that shouldn't be an issue, if they decide to do an online mode?
Great game, but the poor image quality was immediately noticable. Good to hear there's an update coming that will address it.
@karatekid1612 Perhaps. The performance was fine, but the online multiplayer had some serious warping. So they'd really need to improve their netcode.
That's Shin'en for ya.
@KoopaTheGamer 👍
It's just 15€. Not buying this game if a liiitle bit interested should be forbidden!
Yes. Praise it more, so we get more Tracks 😻
@larryisaman
I mean.. It has GameChat online too, which makes it online in the online-est sense ?!
I told myself on Switch 1's launch day that I'll buy Fast RMX someday. Fast forward and now the Switch 2 has launched and it's still on my wishlist. I'll probably do the same on Fast Fusion. 😂
So....how do they know the internal rendering resolution that DLSS is using given they itted they dont usually cover DLSS using low resolutions and thus didnt know it was being used in most footage?
What interests me the most is if the game is fun which definitely is Fast Fusion's case based on what I've seen/heard - that said, it's nice that it's technically impressive, too (and should be even more so when it comes to both aspects in the future thanks to the announced updates)!
@Haruki_NLI
Just like with standard TAA when there’s a hard camera cut the first 1-2 frames will be the raw internal resolution because that’s all DLSS has to work with.
@JohnnyMind
It’s so much fun it’ll make happy in your boxers 😂
Seriously though, it is, as I would expect based on its pedigree, seriously enjoyable and has got to be the best fun per pound /dollar game on the system.
What’s surprised me more than anything is that I’ve put far more time into Fast Fusion so far than I have Mario Kart World and I’m a huge MK fan.
Yes, the image quality is immediately noticeable as blurry, why they didn’t have a mode to rectify that from the get go is beyond me. But hey, nobody’s perfect and they’re going to fix that and add more tracks for free. Personally I’d have happily paid more for the game, it’s that good.
@Stwert Not sure if I'll be able to play it as soon as my Switch 2 arrives between all the games I'm currently playing, other Switch 2 titles I want to play first and foremost (absolutely including Mario Kart World) etc., but I'm definitely getting it immediately anyway and I'm looking forward to it when I have the time for it - thanks for sharing your experience with the game!
Not dipped in on this yet, waiting to see if they do a Physical copy with all the extra tracks and stuff in the future.
Have the original on Wii U and love that game, though i find the later classes and tracks quite a challenge
These are the kinda devs folk should 👍
Loving the game and what I've play so far. Damn hearing that music on their video just made me want to play but I have work duties.
John does the best videos at DF. I love the channel, but he really appreciates a good game and good music.
@KITG_GROUP It took over 5.5 years for Fast Fusion to get a physical, but I waited & it paid off. I'll probably do the same for this one.
Will be getting this soon. They are definitely Nintendo’s best indie studio. They should just give them the keys to the F Zero franchise.
Find it fascinating that this is what…the 3rd Nintendo console launch that launched with a Fast game. Had a ton of fun with RMX
Will be interesting to watch the video when I get chance. Everything I hear from people is positive, and the screenshots and clips I’ve seen so far look great, but most quotes and stats from the video mentioned in this article sound quite negative.
The early impressions, quality graphics and great price meant I bought this day one. I felt I wanted to back the game for both the great dev work and also for not going high on price like so many others.
I’ve not played a huge amount of it yet but enough to know it’ll stay on my S2 for the life of the console. It takes some getting used to control wise but it’s also perfect for a couple of races if you’ve got 20 spare minutes.
Hope this does really well. These guys seem awesome.
@Ed_Zeppelin UP THE GAS!
Really dug Fast RMX, and been a fan of the WipEout series for ages, so purchasing this was a no-brainer. Really like the Fusion aspect as well; you could go down a real rabbit hole with the amount of experimentation there.
Getting my Switch 2 next week, and I'm 100% ing this right away!
