Nintendo today revives the classic RPG Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for Switch and as part of the celebrations it's prepared a "retro Nintendo GameCube cover".
This item is available from the My Nintendo Store in the US for 30 Platinum Points, so you can "print it out and slip it in your Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door game case" when you get the Switch release.
"Unleash those retro vibes with this alternate cover featuring artwork from the original Nintendo GameCube™ system release."
The Nintendo New York Store is also giving out a special GameCube slip cover when you purchase the game there:
And if this wasn't already enough, Nintendo is also offering a special themed notepad on the My Nintendo Store that's available for 550 Platinum Points. Here's a look and a bit about it:
"Take notes in style with this colorful My Nintendo papercraft reward. This notepad features colorful characters from the Paper Mario™: The Thousand-Year Door game. Each notepad includes 20 different designs on 60 total pages. A paper airplane and folding instructions are included with this reward! This physical reward is available while supplies last."

Man the GameCube is retro now? I’m old as dirt…
Looks cool! there’s a lot of rewards for TTYD now (mostly digital/printable rewards), pretty cool!
So retro!

@Ronaldore I'd say it's been truly retro since 2021.
Oh my god I want it so bad! Sadly I don’t think I will be able to get it ): shame but it’s still awesome that they did this and I hope they consider doing this for many other games as well!
AWW CMON why couldnt they make that just the alternate cover?!
why cant a game just BE special? why does everything have to be a "bonus" or a special edition?
in other words, why not just ship this game in that slip case? 😟 Being a Nintendo fan used to feel so much more... "magical."
Man they realllly bungled this. That should have been on the reverse side of the cover to begin with. Imagine the delight that would have given people as a surprise when they opened their copy. The publicity would have been worth the cost of doing a double sided print.
Printing something yourself doesn't feel quite as good as being presented with it, does it?
That’s cool. Probably print on demand aside from the preorder bonus locations to allow for lower costs. No point in wasting money making a bunch of covers most won’t notice or use.
Can anyone confirm what regions have access to this? I don't see it on the website here in Texas, and I don't know how to manually change my location. Maybe I should finally get a VPN.
And could they do print on demand for instruction manuals for those of us who would buy them?
I know it supposed to replicate the original GameCube cover but it feels a little incongruous for it to say "GameCube" on it when it's still for the Switch. Still cool, though.
@Ronaldore On the one hand, I felt that comment with every fiber of my being, deep in my creaky bones. And then on the other, I realize that the original release of TTYD was 20 years ago, and 20 years before that…was the pre-NES/Famicom video game crash of the 80s. 🫠
Back in my day, when you bought something like The Legend of Zelda, EVERYbody got a gold cartridge, no matter where you lived. This sucks for people who can't be in NYC at 9 am, lol.
@Thomystic I've added in the direct links, can be redeemed with a US .
You have to cut the stupid thing out if you print it🥲
That should be the alternate cover...
@versionfiv don’t think about it!! The GameCube is still that little powerful wonder box in my eyes. F-Zero GX!! Oh my!! Still so beautiful.
@Ronaldore Haha, this is so relatable!
Really cool. I love reversible covers and alternate covers. This would go great with my, apperently, retro collection!
Not available in my region? What the hell?!
Would have been nice as a reversible cover that, similar to Metroid prime and advanced wars reboot camp
Agree with those above, would’ve been nice for this just to have been included anyway as a reversible cover.
Can I pay 30 platinum points to get the Gamecube game's framerate?
Probably wish I'd never thrown away all my old GC boxes ages ago now - I see boxed copies of TTYD going for triple figures now!
“ One per purchase, while supplies last”, huh?
Would've been better to have it as a reversible cover but still, better than nothing for those who want it.
The physical reward is nice and appropriate for this game, except that they should've had the right combination of characters and backgrounds - why the heck does Frankly have TEC in the background for example?
@lyle_catcliffe
Some retailers are offering it as an additional sleeve. This is separate from printing it yourself.
@Joriss Same for me (I'm in UK), but I changed my location to USA then I was able to it.

Sonic Mania Plus came with a reversible alternate Mega Drive style cover. Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap came with a reversible alternate Master System style cover.
What did those games have in common? Budget price since day one. Not like this remake/remaster, whatever you wanna call it, at full price.
But of course, let's keep in mind that Nintendo, a small struggling company, did it this way because the alternative would have been costly.
@jimbob298 Just tried that but it wouldn't work
@Joriss I've added a link above.
@jimbob298 lovely, doing god's work. Thank you
@Ronaldore I know what'll make you feel better!:
Minecraft is as old now as the NES was when the GameCube released!
@jimbob298 I logged on to share the box art as well, but kudos for making sure everyone can get access to it!
@lyle_catcliffe if you press print twice, your computer melts
@Hwatt ah, didn’t catch that - my bad! Good old NYC. Visited a few times.
@lyle_catcliffe
All good At least the a few posts above is sharing the PDF for . Take that to your nearest print center for a high quality print and you're sorted. Granted, I do think it's a bit weird it says Nintendo Gamecube on top, especially the "Only For" tab.
I think they could of been a bit more creative but I also understand if they wanted to bring back the old cover, it's 100% original.
I still have my original GC copy and while I love the game, I was never a fan of the brown palette. I think I like the new cover art more... ducks away
Just bought it! But as a side note.... How did this thing get rated E for Everyone with Madame Blow (I think that's her name) not being, uh... covered?!
@CaleBoi25
No nips; No problem
Would have been nice to have a reversible slip cover in every physical copy to begin with considering the price of the remaster.
This is Nintendo though so that's asking a bit much. I guess it's still better than paying the high price for the GameCube version. Which I'd imagine will lose its value now.
I'm still looking forward to playing in it's entirety for the first time. When it originally released I foolishly traded it in to either GameStop or GameCrazy.
I think it was in part to having to read everything via text bubbles because at that time I was spoiled by voice acting being more prevalent in games. While I love to read, I didn't enjoy reading in a television back then.
Interesting, in Canada this was a GameStop pre-order bonus. I got mine today and it looks great. The back of mine is the retail cover though. The front is the GameCube one. Looks like this one is slightly different in that respect.
If I printed this out on my printer at home it would look abysmal and the complete opposite of ‘special’!
@jimbob298 thank you Sir! Have one for down the line!
