Would it hurt them to add an extra page for armor in Breath of the Wild?
Mario 3D All Stars doesn't mention it but I hope that it includes for the Switch Online GameCube controller for Sunshine. It already s the original through a USB adapter but not sure if this controller is treated differently
Hmm. None of these mention increased resolution or frame rate. These are probably just compatibility fixes, since we know not all Switch games natively work on Switch 2, with the way backwards compatibility has been implemented. Disappointing, I hope over time at least all 1st party switch games get resolution/frame rate improvements.
Did strike me as really odd that Mario Wonder wasn't one of the announced Switch 2 upgrades, and it especially stands out if they're having to patch it for compatibility anyway. Really makes me wonder if there's a paid upgrade for it coming later in the year.
Does feel a little head-tilting so long as they were updating other stuff that they didn't put out one enabling the performance upgrade in Xenoblade X.
If they had to do all that for first party titles, makes me worry for 3rd party stuff, especially from studios without the budget to rigorously test and patch their games.
@LexKitteh at this point I’d just be happy with everything working, and faster load times!
@Lizuka Eh, doesn't seem likely. Wonder's not exactly a game that inherently benefits from a major technical/graphical upgrade. It runs and plays well even on the Switch's dated hardware. The "several adjustments" probably boil down to minor bugs and such.
I’m not confident in any switch 1 game that does not have a patch. Also this seems like a lot of work for Nintendo.
Nearly all of my Nintendo games have an update. Shame you have to check except for last 12 games you have played.
"Several adjustments have been made to improve gameplay on Nintendo Switch 2." so..... Does that mean that these are bug fixes that existed in the S2 performance or does it mean upgrades that improve the gameplay when compared to S1 gameplay.....?
Smash update when?
A lot of other games also have updates...
Me: Would love Mario Galaxy in 4k, HDR, 120Hz, with mouse controls
Nintendo: How about we just make it playable?
@spottedleaf it should map to the Switch controller it has the same buttons. Whether that maps to the original GC controls I don’t know.
@N00BiSH I'd imagine if NSMBU Deluxe has room for technical improvement in areas, so does Wonder. But considering it doesn't have one, I think there's a strong possibility it'll be getting a paid upgrade at a later date with new content.
I was really hoping there’d be some sort of an update for Splatoon 3.
@LexKitteh That's exactly what I was thinking. And yeah, I'm curious whether this is just a first round of games that will receive enhancements.
@shoeses Well, I feel that's different; New Deluxe was a port of a Wii U game, so of course tweaks and additional content were going to be added to round out the package. I don't really see the same happening with Wonder.
I'm really curious which games will work well on NS2. I'm a bit afraid all my Square games are out the door at the moment! 😂
This reads more bug fixes than performance/graphic improvements. They would use more specific language like what they did with Scarlet/Violet if it was frames improvement.
That said that doesn’t mean there isn’t gonna be performance improvements.
BoTW and Tears for example on this list is already confirmed to play better on the Switch 2.
There is also a big update for Hogwarts Legacy, I suppose it has to do with getting it ready for the Switch 2 upgrade option in game.
Pokemon isn't my cup of tea but IGN have just posted a video on the SW2 upgrades for Scarlet and Violet.
It's quite the boost in both graphics and performance.
@TheDragonDAFan It would be nice if they added quality of life changes for sure. Scrolling through stuff on Tears was a pain lol.
Screen flickers for Pikmin 3? Oh dear I hope the 3rd party library is safe from issues like this, if not I feel mislead by their article: https://www.nintendo.com/us/gaming-systems/switch-2/transfer-guide/compatible-games/
@elpardo1984 Super Mario Sunshine was a very notable GameCube game that used analog triggers, something the Switch layout does not have. Also, the ABXY buttons are mapped differently unless an authentic gamecube controller is used
Still waiting for prices to come down .
@Yomerodes I hope it fixes the hearts of the people who bought it.
@Warioware A bit of both I’d warrant. Backwards compatibility on as massive a scale as the whole Switch library (which I assume was their initial goal) is not easy.
There was a video from the boss of Nvidia released yesterday. Backwards compatibility has been very much considered when deg the Switch 2’s main chip.
@Warioware You're right, it does read "Improve gameplay" which doesn't sound like fixed issues. And Mario Wonder came out when SW2 was already on the horizon. Maybe stuff was already baked in that just needs to be unlocked (4K , 120fps – which SW2 should be easily capable of for this game)? At least one can dream and tomorrow come we'll know for certain. There will be a lot to try out. It's really exciting!
Never updated TOTK but if I do for switch 2, no item dupe trick makes me cry!
Where is Bayonetta 3! Doom 2016, Doom Eternal, Dark Souls, Arkham Knight,l?!!!!! These games seriously need next gen upgrade asap!
@N00BiSH The game is a perfect candidated for DLC, it is a late in life release, and it is ideal to showcase 120 fps. I strongly disagree, and I believe Wonder is actually the most probable Switch 2 Edition.
Already created a custom list on Dekudeals called "Switch 2 transfer". A lot of these and the ones that receive upgrades are already on it as well as several 3rd parties and indies that should benefit from more horse power and improved Joycons. So much I want to try out on Switch2!
It'd be nice to know what is meant by 'improve gameplay on Switch 2'.
Echoes of wisdom also got a update, adding a favorite option, to add favorite Echoes after you have at least 30 Echoes memorized.
Would be nice if they re-release the 3D All Stars. They've sold a bazillion consoles since then and some of us (regrettably) didn't scoop it at the time. Wishful thinking...
It’ll be interested to see how Bayonetta 3 runs on Switch 2 - if it even gets any benefit at all.
The game uses Dynamic Resolution Scaling to maintain framerate, but was notoriously “too much” for the Switch to handle and took a huge visual hit and still couldn’t maintain 60fps.
It seems more like tweaks to the Switch 1 emulation mode… That’s not a good sign. If most games require small fixes like this to run properly on Switch 2, the majority of third party titles probably won’t get patched and will just end up running worse than on the original Switch… potentially forever.
And the fact that the backwards compatibility mode is locked until day one release combined with the review embargo doesn’t exactly inspire confidence…
Loads of first party games have gotten updates for me (UK). Mario Maker 2, Captain Toad, Paper Mario, Brothership, Echoes and Awakening, Mario U Deluxe, and all the games previously mentioned as benefitting from boosts... I'm guessing they're all being rolled out as the day goes on
I'm pretty worried about the quality of the backwards compatibility thing.
Much like Steam deck i feel we are going to be relying on the community to give real concrete answers as to whether an S1 game plays well with the translation layer or not.
I'm glad I am able to keep my Oled and still upgrade.
@GamingFan4Lyf that's a good use case for the S2 assuming the translation works well for this title.
Hopefully maxing out resolution and frame rate should be possible. Fingers crossed!
@Jack_Goetz I have a suspicion that that is Nintendo code for - didn't play properly on S2 and now it does....
Xenoblade 3 should’ve got a performance boost as well.
Nice to see also these updates so that even more games beyond those getting the major upgrades will be at their best on Switch 2 - fingers crossed we'll keep on seeing upgrades and updates in general (even more so when it comes to third-party games, especially those that had issues on Switch although of course that's not up to Nintendo)!
the legend of zelda:hyrule warriors age calamity these updates and animal crossing:new horizons? please
Happy to see Kirby's Dream Buffet and Mario 3D All Stars, but really would like Kirby's Dream Buffet to get a 60 FPS update. Something about it just feels very low quality and not responsive.
…they actually bothered to update SM3DAS
Here in Brazil, we are so happy with the brazilian portuguese option!
Much hype waiting also the switch 2 coming in the same day of the other countries!
I don't know why, but I was not expecting a 3D All Stars update!
@jfp I am hoping it at least means upped FOS and resolution on some of those, or draw distance on the 3D ones. Won't be getting a Switch 2 for a little bit but I am already shelving some of my current games until I do so I can play them in hopefully upgraded form.
@arabiansanchez hopefully it does mean performance upgrades, but it could just mean that they fixed issues with the initial Switch 2 emulation (I'm sure I saw a technical video explaining that Switch 2 uses some sort of backwards compatibility plus emulation mix).
@Misima Good luck with that
What I'm wondering is if they will possibly have Paper Mario upgraded on the Switch 2 probably in a few months.
They updated the wrong xenoblade. I was hoping for X. (I’d also take XC2). Hopefully those are next
Can confirm that XC3 ver. 2.2.1 seems like a compatibility update. Handheld/Docked resolutions seems the same as Switch 1, 30fps at both, and surprisingly the loading times are about the same as on Switch 1.
Hardly any improvement whatsoever. All four Xenoblade games (especially 2) are crying for updates like Scarlet & Violet. Really hope they do get updated eventually, so I can reply the whole trilogy once more.
@nikolai131 Yeah, the revelation that backwards compatibility is actually a pretty complex form of emulation has killed my excitement to try any Switch 1 games not explicitly receiving an upgrade. I'll just be thankful if I can continue to play my library of Switch games as they were given all the various compatibility issues being worked on in real time, and keep our fingers crossed for continued upgrades, paid or free!
@Ulysses it isn't a complex form of emulation though. It isn't emulation at all.
It is translation like the Steam deck uses to run Windows games on Linux - something that has worked really well in many games.
How well the translation layer works on S2 is something that only time will tell.
@LexKitteh it's absolutely criminal that XC3 doesn't have a resolution increase. Just booted up on my S2 and it looks HORRIBLE
Skyward Sword seems to be the only Switch Zelda game that hasn't got an update, while every Mario game got an update.
I would guess the 3D All-Stars update is for the emulator, since the N64 Classics app also got an update.
