Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. Okay, we say "huge", these figures don't exactly look great compared to what we might have seen a few years back, but hey, it's a solid start.
The Switch version is the king here, of course, but PS5 has also debuted with some decent figures. Elsewhere, Ys Memoire: Memories of Celceta entered the charts with a rather more modest 5,911.

Hardware this time is basically on par with last week. Sale figures are low, but that's to be expected with the Switch 2 on the horizon. We're morbidly curious to see what happens to those PS5 figures when Nintendo's new console hits. They're already... not good, y'know?
Here's your look at the latest Japanese hardware sales in full:
Nintendo Life’s resident horror fanatic, when he’s not knee-deep in Resident Evil and Silent Hill lore, Ollie likes to dive into a good horror book while nursing a lovely cup of tea. He also enjoys long walks and listens to everything from TOOL to Chuck Berry.
@molkom The PS5 will have a lot more digital sales (which aren't counted here) due to the 3 day early access for digital pre orders, plus Fantasy Life was a Nintendo exclusive year's ago so already has a large following with Nintendo fans who have been waiting years for this game. Also I wouldn't be surprised if there's more PC players than there is PS5 players as well, the game is doing very well on Steam.
"We're morbidly curious to see what happens to those PS5 figures when Nintendo's new console hits. They're already... not good, y'know?"
That's one way to invite Anti-Matter into a discussion. But seriously, as long as at least someone in Japan is in the market for a home console after all, PS5 seems to be the new optimal choice for them by now, especially with a slowly increasing number of Gen 9 exclusive JRPGs over the years.
@molkom well, they're only the largest current gen console base in Japan. That does tend to factor in here and there (not saying the latter with condescending sarcasm, it's just not the only factor at play).
Love to see Fantasy Life i selling that well in general and unsurprisingly mostly on Switch in Japan!
Also happy to see Gundam in 2nd, Memories of Celceta in 5th (although I wished it sold more), Switch Sports in 6th, Jamboree in 7th, 8 Deluxe in 8th, Clair Obscur in 9th, New Horizons in 10th and of course Switch still selling the most even though obviously less than before considering Switch 2 is coming - speaking of, so looking forward to the charts in two weeks because of that!
@Kuarzero Should be the week after because as you can see from the original article (even if you don't know Japanese you can it yourself thanks to those being numbers) these are the charts from May 19 to May 25!
Hopefully we get Ys Memoire: Memories of Celceta soon in the west. I'm now close to completing Ys Memoire: The Oathe in Felghana and would love to jump into Memories of Celceta right after.
@Lord The only issue is will they eat the tariffs cause if they don't then their handheld won't do any better than the PS5. Now that Switch 2 is launching at $450, customers will expect at least a $500 price tag on that new PlayStation handheld. If it even launch at $600 or more then it's dead on arrival.
Fantasy Life I PS5 version got the 3rd position and so did the PS5 sales.
Not that bad.
I'm also planning to get Fantasy Life I PS5 version.
I know some peoples still prefer PS5 version for better performance. 😊
Fantasy Life i 100% deserves to be number 1. It's the most fun I've had with a game all year, even when including top notch AAA games like Xenoblade Chronicles X. An absolute banger of a game that, in a world that was fair, would sell millions of copies.
@Anti-Matter The screenshot is definitely from Fantasy Life i as the safari ranger character is a Plushling, a species that was also in the original Fantasy Life on 3DS - not sure about the bird, could be a completely new character (or I'm simply forgetting it at the moment, but I don't think so)!

Okay, Fantasy life has a much higher attach ratio on Switch vs PS5, are Switch owners so much more the sweetspot?
Nice! Looking forward to playing fantasy life on switch 2.
Come on SW1, give the PS5 a break. It's borderline bullying now.
I completely forgot about Ys Memoire: Memories of Celceta being a thing. Please come West!

Will the Switch 2 be shown next week or the week after? I'm looking forward to seeing that number
@Kuarzero you'll need to flip your phone to landscape to fit the total numbers in view 😜

Hee hee, the Switch Lite SKU on its own is outselling the PS5 trio of systems 😅

@Duncanballs The system has had like 2-3 price increases in Japan. It is what it is.
Talking of which, where’s your review of Fantasy Life i?
Hopefully we get Ys Memoire: Memories of Celceta soon in the west. I'm now close to completing Ys Memoire: The Oathe in Felghana and would love to jump into Memories of Celceta right after.
Even if it's only a difference of 11 copies, it's funny how Nintendo Switch Sports is the first-party game that sold the most this week.
With the PS5 sales dropping I image they will push out that handheld as fast as they can.

@UltimateOtaku91
That makes sense!
Man, even with the Switch 2 looming, the Switch 1 is still the top selling system. I do wonder how the Switch 2 is gonna perform.
@nhSnork
With "attach ratio" the base is taken into . The 8 to 1 ratio of Fantasy life sales is much higher than the console sales ratio, which is 5 to 1.
(lifetime Switch sales are roughly 35M vs 7M for PS5 if my quick arithmetic doesn't fail me)
Fantasy Life I PS5 version got the 3rd position and so did the PS5 sales.

@molkom
There were even some WiiU games that outsold PS / Xbox versions!
Where are the lifespan Switch System sales numbers!
Surely it has sured PS2 by now... Again... For the 5th time!
@Nightcrawler71 It's coming, we didn't get code until very recently.
@Spider-Kev In Japan it's by far the best selling console ever after having sured the DS. The PS2 is fifth behind Switch, DS, Gameboy and 3DS.

Just curious.
What is that blue bird creature and the safari ranger character from the screenshot above.
Are they the characters from Fantasy Life I?
