Interesting that Bananza is so low- maybe the Japanese audience doesn’t vibe with the American DK design?
super robot wars should not be on any top 30 list even in japan..no ghost of yotei really i guess having a woman as lead character is not welcomed in japan..
Pragmata!? I’m not alone! I’m so glad it made the top 10 on a list somewhere. Where is an update for that game?
My list so far just these games:
1st party
1. Mario Kart World
2. Donkey Kong Bananza
3. Pokemon Legends Z-A
Optional 3rd party (Game card ONLY)
1. Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar
2. Tamagotchi Plaza
Still very very few Switch 2 games I want to buy and hence I will wait until there are more games in card that I can consider.
Definitely NOT Day one, I can find the used games to get cheaper option.
This polled Japanese audience has fine taste! A wonderful list indeed.
@JakedaArbok I think top 10 is actually pretty good for Bananza. (Also, where'd the idea the new DK is American come from?)
@JakedaArbok American??? The design was from Nintendo's team in Japan, not from Illumination.
Anyways, I think the real reason Bananza's only 9th is because there are no real high expectations(nor are there low ones). This is a Donkey Kong game sure, but it's a very different kind of DK game than what most people are used to so they can't really compare to anything else in the same series(DK64 is the other 3D game but they're both pretty different). Besides, it's still in the top 10. Still a lot of folks are anticipating it.
@N00BiSH
The DK design that was iterated by Rare seems to be inspired more by American-style animation. I should have been more clear on my statement. It had just always seemed like DK was more popular in the West.
Nintendo not waiting to release the bundle is going to see this game cross 75% adoption rate or better.
But I was assured nobody would be buying it!
@CoastersPaul I mean, we still have to see how many will buy it separately in comparison with getting it through the bundle.
The Switch 2 is so depressing to me. Thank God for indie devs and Doom.
@BrazillianCara I'd wager that far more will buy it as part of the bundle once the pre-order hype dies down. Because why wouldn't you? Even if you're a physical purist, seems like it would make more sense to buy it digitally as part of the bundle (to save some money) and wait for a future physical release that will likely have DLC on it and be discounted (put the money saved towards that). All that to say, I don't think this game is the best test for the viability of the new higher price tag because the circumstances provide a strong incentive to buy it in the bundle.
I'm looking forward to Mario Kart and all the Nintendo 1st party games coming up, but also looking forward to playing some Switch 1 games with upgraded graphics and higher fps. And Soul Caliber 2 and F-Zero

I’d say Super Robot Wars Y most definitely deserves its place on Famitsu’s list. I guess YMMV depending on your familiarity with the base IP, and how much in-game text you can endure.
The series has been going for 30+ years for a reason - each entry is a love letter to mecha anime characters and robots, with decent tactical grid battles, cool battle scenes, BGM and songs from the anime, and usually the original voice talent, too.
All kinds of classic super robots (Mazinger, Getter, Grendizer, etc), real robots (Gundam, Macross, Dunbine. etc), and adjacent sci-fi show heroes, old and new, are thrown together to take down their respective villains and featured original baddies. It’s satisfying to power up your favorite characters and take them through each game. Each entry has a slightly different anime lineup - it’s a bit like Smash to see who’s getting the invite. 😁
The mix of different archetypes and genres can be fun, and it’s always impressive how many different IPs they license each time. It’s analogous to licensing characters from Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Valiant, IDW, Disney, and Archie to throw together into a game.
They’re niche games, for sure, but consistently decent, and their player base in Japan would be among the hard core gamers who read Famitsu and vote in such polls.
I personally love mecha anime and I’m an old student of Japanese, so the SRW games are right up my alley. I hope you’ll forgive me rushing to Y’s defense! I’ll be picking the game up this year, even if the backlog is a mile deep.
It you count the votes across all platforms together, dragon quest would be number one. Pretty wild for a remake.
@JakedaArbok I'm just not sure it looks that good honestly. Really disappointed if this truly is the replacement for a proper 3D mario game in the vein of Odyssey. Maybe it will be excellent but it doesn't look great from what I have seen.
My Top 10 are
1) Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
2) Star Wars Jedi 3
3) Pokemon Legends: Z-A
4) Elements
5) Donkey Kong Bananza
6) Rayman (New game in development)
7) Super Mario Odyssey 2 or new 3D Mario Game
8) Spyro the Dragon 4 (rumoured)
9) Mario Kart World
10) Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
Also, we will be getting 'Yooka Replayee' and there is a new Batman game reported to be in development from the creators of 'Arkham Origins' and it is rumoured it is going to be part of the Arkham series and will be a return to form and I am hoping for 'Arkham Origins 2' with Barbara Gordon as Batgirl and Dick Grayson as Robin.😀
Unsurprising that the closer we got to its and Switch 2's release and even more so after the dedicated Direct more and more are looking forward to it and the same applies to Switch 2 games in general to a lesser extent but still, love to see it (can't wait to finally play it myself when it and Switch 2 arrive) - anyway, great picks in general!
Prime 4 is lower than Layton 😭 No disrespect to an amazing series but how.
@johnedwin This comment makes no sense when Metroid Prime 4 is on the list. Maybe the reason Ghost of Yotai isn't, is because Japanese are tired of the usual formula of American open world games that refuse to innovate.
@TruestoryYep Ghost of Yōtei is inspired by Sucker Punch Productions' visits to northern Japan, particularly the beauty of Mount Yōtei and the nature sounds of Shiretoko National Park. The game is set in 1603 in Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido), at the end of the Sengoku period and the beginning of the Edo period, outside of Japan's direct rule. This location, inspired by Hokkaido's less populated history, offers a different perspective on Japanese culture than games typically explore
