The Nintendo Switch Online mobile app has undergone a pretty major rebrand as fans excitedly await the launch of the Switch 2 on 5th June 2025.
Now simply known as 'Nintendo Switch App', the 3.0.1 update now lets you view your friends' profiles and receive optional notifications whenever they come online.
Crucially, however, the app s the Nintendo Switch 2, allowing you to receive GameChat invite notifications while introducing a much-needed improvement to screenshot management.
Effectively, with the Switch 2, utilising the ' to Smart Device' feature will now send screenshots directly to the Nintendo Switch app, with up to 100 files displayed for 30 days after the initial . If you don't want the hassle of doing this manually, you can also enable screenshots to be ed to the app automatically. Yay!
In addition to the new hardware features, the 'Zelda Notes' feature for Tears of the Kingdom on Switch 2 is viewable via the main menu. You can't do anything with it yet, mind, and we suspect this will become available alongside the Switch 2 launch next week.
Have you got the Nintendo Switch app ed? Do you think this will help with screenshot management? Let us know your thoughts with a comment down below.

See when my friends come online and invites sent? That'll be handy. ^^
It looks better now in my opinion. Like it has more personality now. Just a bit more. I like it.
oh thank god, transferring screenshots has always been so clunky. especially when videos can only be transferred one at a time
honestly a great win for the app. probably the biggest reason ill open it, next to scanning qr codes for acnh patterns. btw PLEASE let us scan qr codes of miis it'll be so helpful for the tomodachi life game
I’m really pleased they used ‘boot up’ rather than ‘turn on’.
For video and screenshot management, I used to unplug the microSD card after turning off the Switch system, and plugging it into my computer. It's not ideal though because the screenshots are organised by a folder structure of years, months, and days.
However there's a USB connection mode for PCs that makes copying screenshots to your PC very easy, since it organises them by title instead. It only lets you copy though, so you need to delete them using your Switch afterwards.
It's almost happening you guys!
Can't wait to replay BOTW and search those notes!!! 😍😍
SOOoo good to have an easy transfer mode. I used to be quite happy doing the "grab it from your own Twitter feed, later" thing, but.
...
ugh..
But can we transfer the screenshots and captured videos manually by connecting the micro SD card express to PC?
Finally the app is worth using now 👍🏻
It has the same Friends icon as 3DS and Wii U! The orange smiling square
@Anti-Matter I suspect that will still be an option, yes. We'll test it out when we're able to, of course.
Wait, are screenshots tied to the that they were made on? My main doesn't have NSO, while the one that has NSO I use only to buy games...
@RupeeClock Not everyone has a PC/laptop, sadly.
@Vyacheslav333
I wonder if it might work with smart phones, I tried it briefly with my Samsung phone but couldn't find where to view or copy the Switch screenshots.
It should've worked like connecting a digital camera.
Thank youuuuuu! 🙏
I loved using this on PlayStation. I love sharing screenshots with my friends.
1 week to go. EEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.................!!!!!!!!
Any screenshot sharing and any effort to make them easier is more than welcome. I've always just used a USB cable to plug my portable Switch to the computer or laptop to them.
Cant wait to play zelda again with these notes! And item/build sharing.
They could put virtual game card management in the app as well, considering it's already available on the web. Oh yeah and the eshop.
Nice additions, might make use of them myself (not sure to what extent though, we'll see) - what I'll use for sure is Zelda Notes, especially for the Voice Memories!
The NS1 voice chat has disappeared but I'm sure it is still there somewhere.
Is there a real reason we need both a Nintendo Online app and a Nintendo Today app? Surely the limited functionality of one could be combined and merged into the limited functionality of the other. 🤷♂️
Still not available in most Latin American countries. It's sad that Nintendo doesn't care
@JumpingJackson As someone who has the app, American English uses power on.
Does this apply to Switch 1 as well?
@MrCarlos46 ☹️
I can't use the app anymore, it just crashes shortly after it opens. Is this an issue that other people are having with the update, or is it just my phone?
(Edit: Nevermind, I'm not sure why but after changing the language of the app to US English and back in Settings, it suddenly stopped crashing. Still curious if others have had issues though.)
